For what was to become the largest ice facility under one roof west of the Mississippi, SPS Technology’s Stadia+Arenas System was chosen for the newly built Rink 6 indoor arena stands, vomitory walls, aisle steps and stairs of the new 4,200-seat Tech CU Arena in San Jose California in 2022. It is now one of the premier recreational ice facilities in North America.
In this 200,000 ft² expansion project to the original Solar4America Ice at the San Jose complex, the number of ice sheets grew from four to six, with the SPS system being installed in the new indoor arena for Rink 6. DevCon Construction was the design-build architect of record for the project, which will soon be recognized with a US Green Building Council LEED Silver certification.
The majority of the SPS arena stands were installed in about one week, and you can view a drone fly-thru video from installers QEC Inc. as well as a video of the complete Tech CU Arena shown below, both on YouTube. The San Jose Barracuda also has an on-site video discussing the 2022 construction of the Tech CU Arena.
Tech CU Indoor Arena will host the AHL All-Star Classic in February 2024.
SPS Technology has extensive experience designing indoor arena stands for both new build arenas and the sustainable renovation of existing venues. SPS is the most quickly installed and architecturally versatile heavy-duty stadium stand solution on the market today. Not just limited to terrace decking, the System includes vomitory walls, aisle steps, stairs, walkways and platforms.
