Transocean Helideck Strengthening

Project Type

Helideck Strengthening

Location

Jurong Shipyard, Singapore

Date

May 2005

Owner

Transocean Deepwater Drilling Co.

Classification

Sandwich Plate System (SPS) was used for helideck strengthening aboard a Transocean semi-submersible, allowing it to accept heavier helicopters.

The repair, carried out at Jurong Shipyard, Singapore was completed in just 10 days – many times faster than conventional strengthening methods. The use of SPS avoided intrusive below deck strengthening and so disruption to the accommodation deck and associated pipes, service runs and insulation.

We are delighted with the end result and the speed with which the strengthening took place.

SPS solves engineering challenges

SPS Technology has a Special Application team whose aim is to solve unusual problems like how to strengthen helidecks – or any other surface – with Sandwich Plate System.  SPS structural composite panels are unusually strong for such a thin material, and through continuing research and collaboration we’ve discovered its ability to spread force throughout the material through superior energy absorption.

So far, SPS has successfully been used for:

SPS Technology also has over twenty years of expertise delivering repairs with SPS on all types of Maritime and Offshore projects. The SPS Technology Global Partner Network is available around the globe and can help with repairs while your asset or vessel is at sea or in dry dock, in service or out.
