The SPS Stadia + Arenas System decking contributed to the Daytona International Speedway’s ‘Daytona Rising’ renovation project of 2013/14, which saw the aging 54-year-old speedway updated to meet the changing demands on the facilities at the Speedway.

In total, roughly 20,000 ft² [1865 m²] of our structural composite, SPS, was installed in the new Hospitality Suite Walkway.

The SPS decking system enhanced the spectator experience by providing improved access to the Grandstand and Hospitality Suites. Small cranes for lifting were a necessity due to site conditions. SPS was selected as it fulfilled the requirement of ‘lightweight decking’ to minimise load on the existing support structure.  Although light weight, SPS is naturally dynamically and acoustically deadened and presented the best material choice for this high-end area of the updated Speedway.

Known as the ‘world centre of racing’ for hosting a diverse schedule of events throughout the year, the 500-acre motorsports campus feature renovated grandstands. The $400m renovation project broke ground in July 2013 and was completed in January 2016, ahead of the 54th Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 58th Daytona 500 race events.

Architects ROSSETTI were responsible for the master planning of the Daytona Rising site while the design-build contractor for the project was Barton Malow.
