Roll-on Roll-off cargo ferry Norstream underwent large-scale upper deck reinstatement using SPS in 2024 at Denmark’s Fayard shipyard following the successful deck reinstatement of her sister ship Norsky.

SPS Technology partner SRC successfully led a team that installed 2498m² [26,877 ft²] of Sandwich Plate System as part of the upper deck reinstatement of the freight ferry Norstream. A RoRo cargo ferry built in 1999, Norstream serves the twice-daily shipping route between Tilbury and Zeebrugge along with Norsky.

With a firm commitment to ensuring the Norstream was back in service as quickly as possible, the combined SRC and SPST team worked together 24/7 over 19 days with elastomer injections across 190 cavities taking place during the last 11 days of the project. This approach:

Reduced operational downtime, thanks to the rapid and efficient SPS installation process.
Improved structural performance and increased deck longevity.
Lowered environmental impact, due to reduced steel replacement and waste.
Minimised disruption to operations, with key activities carried out while the vessel was underway.

The team even injected the elastomer core of the deck reinstatement as the ship sailed. Exceptional project management was a necessity.
