SPS Technology partners and SPS licensee, Marine Offshore Management, successfully reinforced the hull protection system of Jan de Nul’s hopper barge, the Pompei, using our innovative sandwich plate system.

This hull protection and reinforcement project was carried out at the Sefine Shipyard in Yalova, Turkey. The Pompei is a vessel designed for side stone dumping, so there were numerous complexities to consider during the reinforcement of its hull. Despite these intricacies, MOM completed the installation in just 14 days, safeguarding the Pompei’s bilge area against harsh environmental conditions and heavy operations.

By using SPS, the vessel now benefits from superior impact protection, which works to extend its service life and maintain peak performance.

MOM leaves no room for error during execution of SPS injection. All details are deliberated in concert with JDN before transporting the materials. The professional and co-operative approach in execution has left JDN with a satisfied feeling to start our next project.

Superior Hull Protection with SPS

  • In total, 131m² of SPS was used to enhance the performance of the hull protection system designed by Jan de Nul on the hopper barge, the Pompei.
  • The result will withstand very high operational and accidental loading conditions.
  • SPS has improved the vessel’s lifetime performance, providing better resistance to abrasion and impact.
  • With SPS reinforcement, the vessel will have reduced future maintenance, repair and downtime.

Sandwich plate system is unique in its ability to deliver hull protection and other types of protection, including dropped object and  vertical blast protection for control rooms. Speak to our team or partners, or follow our SPS Technology Maritime & Offshore LinkedIn page to find out more.
