Picture a World Cup football pitch. Then, double it. That’s the scale of the offshore project tackled by our Network Partner, Marine Offshore Management, when they fully reinstated the NAMDOCK III caisson deck using Sandwich Plate System.

64,500 ft².
That is the area of SPS applied to the Namdock III caisson deck, the largest single SPS Overlay application completed to date. The dock itself runs 195 m over the keel blocks, close to twice the length of a Premier League pitch.
MOM applied SPS 10-20-Existing across 218 separate cavities. In each one, the existing deck plate is retained as the lower face of the finished sandwich, bonded through a 20 mm elastomer core to a new 10 mm steel top plate.
Namdock III is the largest of the three floating docks at Walvis Bay, lifting up to 15,000 tonnes and supporting full service dry docking, hull maintenance and marine engineering. That capacity makes it a mainstay of the West African ship repair market, so keeping the dock in service matters well beyond the yard itself.
Built in Japan in 1977 as Muloobinba, Namdock III worked out of Newcastle, Australia for over thirty years before making the voyage to Namibia under her new name. Now approaching fifty, she gains decades more life from reinstating the deck rather than renewing it, without a lengthy steel renewal campaign pulling the dock from the market.
