Roughly 74 m² [800 ft²] of Sandwich Plate System was used for main deck reinstatement of the deck plating on Condor Limited’s Commodore Clipper in 2019.
SPS Technology Network Partner, Marine Offshore Management (MOM), used Sandwich Plate System for the Main Deck reinstatement (Deck 3), in the way of the hoistable ramp, aboard the hard-working roll-on/roll-off ferry, Commodore Clipper, at A&P Falmouth.
Affected by localised corrosion, the main deck plate required reinstatement. A hot-work SPS installation involved preparing the existing deck surface, welding solid perimeter bars to the existing deck, and then welding the thin SPS top plate to the bars to create a hollow cavity.
This cavity was then injected with Sandwich Plate System’s elastomer core, Elastocore©, which solidified in 15 minutes. The Commodore Clipper was back in operation 12 hours after the last injection, completing the main deck reinstatement.
The final result? A robust, reinforced deck ready for continued service!
The project was approved by Class society DNV.
SPS Technology Network Partners undergo regular training to ensure their teams deliver the best repairs using SPS. Not just limited to repairs like main deck reinstatement, our partners also deliver our unique Cold Work repair, which uses a combination of surveying, onshore fabrication and offshore installation to repair vessels and assets and keep them in service, like the Commodore Clipper, which sails 24/7, 364 days a year.
