In 2019, our partners, Marine Offshore Management, collaborated with Fugro Marine to complete a repair with Sandwich Plate System on the Fugro Supporter, a multipurpose survey vessel. The main deck reinstatement was focused on addressing areas of local corrosion iwo the Science Space (Citadel).
The main project scope was to reinstate the Main Deck plating using SPS to provide long-term protection against ongoing corrosion. By integrating SPS into the repair strategy, this project delivered a durable strengthening solution whilst restoring the structural integrity of the Fugro Supporter’s deck. The team applied SPS 8-20-Existing to the Main Deck with ten (10) cavities filled, covering a total area of approximately 30m². Project approval came from Classification Society Lloyd’s Register.
The completed SPS application increased the Main Deck’s overall strength and stiffness, which helped safeguard against future degradation. Delivered efficiently by our partners, Marine Offshore Management, and in accordance with the highest Class standards, this successful project ensured the Fugro Supporter could continue operating safely, reliably and with minimal disruption to service.
”What sets this project apart is what the owner did not have to do. There was no extensive steel renewal, no disruption to the sensitive science space, no prolonged off-hire and compromise on Class. By applying SPS, our partners at Marine Offshore Management restored the structure and returned the Fugro Supporter to survey work quickly, reliably and with minimal disruption to service. That combination of durability and uptime are only some of the benefits of choosing SPS.
