New build arena construction on the 4th floor of a luxury hotel?  One that can host concerts, shows AND sporting events?

Why not?

Architects Populous were charged with exactly that brief in The Londoner Arena in Macau’s Londoner Hotel . The SPS Stadia+Arenas System not only helped make this innovative arena construction possible, but helped deliver the superior visual and acoustic qualities needed for this exceptional venue.

Custom SPS delivers premium sightlines and impressive acoustics

The client brief asked for a flexible and multi-functional event space with superior visual and acoustic qualities for every seat. The Londoner Arena is host to everything from product launches, conferences and gala dinners through to live music and sporting events.

Populous designed an amphitheatre shape with premium sightlines for every seat, regardless of the type of event.  The material used for the arena construction needed to meet the demands of all types of spectators and users.

Terraces made from SPS are unlike traditional materials and are built to the exact length and depth needed for each project, bringing an innovative design like Populous’ to reality in an arena’s construction. Its light weight makes it easy to lift, whether it is in a busy hotel or a high-rise building in New York City. Its inherent sound-deadening mass delivers the acoustics demanded by discerning clients.

Terraces weren’t the only part of the SPS Stadia+Arenas System employed to great success in The Londoner Arena construction by Populous.  In total, 4,504 m² [48,480 ft²]  of SPS was used for the terraces as well as:

  • media and ADA platforms,
  • vomitory walls,
  • parapet walls and
  • aisle steps.

This is just the latest in a continuing line of projects by Populous using SPS, including an exemplar of arena construction at Philippine Arena, where the SPS System was chosen for its light weight and seismic performance.

Even the most peripheral of seats have excellent views to the stage. The seating bowl design also includes telescopic front tiers that can be truncated to various positions and allows for increased venue flexibility for shows and performance types.
