The SPS Technology team have had a busy few weeks, travelling to Hamburg, as well as staying closer to home in Singapore and the UK. We met with partners, caught up with clients and joined some of the biggest conversations across the maritime, offshore and sports industries. Keep reading to learn more!
Ian Nash Joins SRC at SMM Hamburg
We begin our conversations in Hamburg, where Ian Nash joined our long-standing partners, SRC Group and Metalock, for SMM 2026. Ian took to the Maritime & Offshore NL podium at the Dutch Pavilion to discuss how SPS is being used as an alternative to traditional crop-and-renew repairs, mainly:
- SPS can be installed faster with less downtime compared to traditonal crop and renew.
- Existing steel stays in place, avoiding extensive cutting out and replacement of the original structure.
- Reduces hot work, waste and logistical requirements for less disruption on board.
- SPS provides a permanent structural reinstatement rather than a temporary repair.
SPST x SRC Group Presenting at the IMO
SPS Technology also presented to the International Maritime Organization in London, as part of the Republic of Estonia Ministry of Climate’s delegation to CCC12. Ian Nash and Neil Little joined Alex Vainokivi of SRC Group to discuss Sandwich Structure as a Cofferdam Alternative for Methanol and Ethanol Fuel Tanks, addressing a regulatory pathway under SOLAS II-1/55.
Methanol requires more than double the tank volume of heavy fuel, and current guidelines require cofferdams around low flashpoint fuel tanks, taking up space that could otherwise carry fuel. The presentation set out how using SPS, two steel faceplates bonded to an elastomer core, can fulfil the safety function of a conventional cofferdam while recovering that lost volume. Across three theoretical case studies – a cruise ship, a large passenger vessel and a container ship – the sandwich structure recovered between 62% and 89% more tank volume than a conventional cofferdam arrangement.
The Methanol Superstorage solution already holds Type Approval and the 2025 Maritime Innovation Award from RINA, plus Approval in Principle from Lloyd’s Register, ClassNK and the Panama Maritime Authority.
This was a significant moment for our team, putting the case for Sandwich Plate System directly to the IMO membership and having the conversation.
Our Singapore team head to the FPSO World Congress
Meanwhile, the SPS Technology Asia team were representing us at the 2026 FPSO World Congress in Singapore! This event provided the perfect opportunity for our maritime and offshore SPS experts, Jonny Lim and Mohammad Farihim, to network with operators, shipyards and other specialists in the global FPSO sector.
Ray Ng, from our Network Partners Asian Sealand Offshore & Marine (ASOM), also joined the team, who rounded off their trip by celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival – not a bad way to finish a busy few days!
Innovate Stadia Represents SPST at SVB Live
Our M&O experts weren’t the only ones out and about these past few weeks. Edward McCarthy, Olan Crowley and John Butler from our Network Partners Innovate Stadia attended SVB Live, representing the SPS Stadia+Arenas System.
With SPS delivering at the 2026 FIFA World Cup modifications, USTA’s Arthur Ashe Stadium, NYC FC’s Etihad Park, MCFC’s Etihad Stadium, West Point’s Michie Stadium, Brighton’s American Express Stadium, Glasgow’s Ibrox Stadium, Salt Lake City’s Delta Center… attendees had a great opportunity to learn more about the structural system behind the continued evolution of some of the world’s biggest sporting venues!
A huge thanks to everyone who made these events possible, to all of our clients, dedicated partners and new connections who took the time to meet with our SPS experts! We’re looking forward to seeing where the next few weeks take us!
